A Builder's Bright Idea

Corromount Line Orange

The year was 2015. Byron Bay builder Dave Irvine was putting the finishing touches on a new corrugated iron dwelling.

Dave was presented with the challenge that he had faced many times before. Traditionally, it’s pretty difficult to mount electrical outlets, light fittings, taps, outdoor showers, clothes lines (and so on) to corrugated iron, due to the ridged nature of the profile.

Corrugated irons’ ridged design means it is great for channelling water, but makes it hard to get a neat flush finish behind the fitting or fixture to be secured to the curvy surface of the iron.

Mounting fittings and fixtures to corrugated iron is always time consuming for trades.

Getting a flush finish that is sealed from the elements, insects and vermin usually means pumping silicone in behind to fill the gaps – which does the job (kind of) but always looks a bit average at best:

With a flash of brilliance, Dave had the idea to pour fibreglass onto a corrugated iron sheet to create the very first Corromount mounting block.

It could be easily cut to size to suit various installation shapes, was fast to mount, easy to paint and produced an incredible finish. This was the start of something big.

Built tough to withstand the Australian sun

Purposefully designed to withstand the harsh Australian weather, Corromount mounting blocks are made of an extremely durable, UV treated, recycled plastic & wood composite that will stand the test of time.

What sets Corromount Apart?

Strong. Solid. Sustainable.

Over the next few years Dave refined the Corromount product. Instead of using toxic fibreglass, he developed a recycled wood and plastic composite.

The material is sustainable, UV resistant, easy to cut, drill and shape, and significantly – has Herculean strength.

Other corrugated mounting blocks have started to emerge on the market, but they don’t stack up against Corromount.

These mostly consist of either plastic or steel sheet products that sit on top of the metal surface, and are secured with rivets.

Corromount is solid throughout. It can be cut, drilled, and worked like a piece of timber. It is extremely strong and resilient. It handles heavy installs such as condenser units for air conditioners without breaking a sweat.

This type of heavy duty install would simply not be possible with a plastic or metal product secured with a couple of rivets to the corrugated iron.

Corromount looks fantastic, it can be painted to seamlessly work in with any project, and with UV resistance as its core, will withstand the harsh Australian summers year in year out.
